We created Drapes & Shades Custom Window Designs because it’s difficult to find a reliable local company you can trust to create and install top-quality custom window treatments at a fair price.
Husband and wife duo Oscar and Elda Morales started Drapes & Shades Custom Window Designs in 2014 in their two-car garage with just two tables and three seamstresses. Today we serve individual and commercial clients from our location in the Palm Aire neighborhood of Fort Lauderdale.
We specialize in everything from premium plantation shutters and wood blinds to practical roller shades and custom draperies, hand-crafted cornices, bedding, custom pillows, and more. Our company has evolved rapidly and serves a diverse clientele, including homeowners, designers, interior decorators, architects, general contractors, investors, landlords, and snowbirds.
How it Started
Elda was about 20 when she and her sister Beatrice began making quilted bedding in their home in Venezuela. They later opened a factory with a store in front and added custom drapery to their product line. The company secured a few contracts with a major hotel chain, and the business exploded, becoming one of the top window treatment stores in Maracaibo.
When Elda married Oscar and left Venezuela, she sold the store to her daughter Mariana. However, Elda brought to the U.S. the same talent and passion for creating exquisite custom décor. After a two-year sabbatical, Elda began working for a wallpaper company in Doral. There, she discovered the high demand for quality custom window treatments and décor in South Florida.
Merging her talent with Oscar’s solid corporate and sales background, the two created Drapes & Shades Custom Window Designs. Elda bought a small sewing machine and started making decorative pillows. She began taking them to a fabric distributor in Hallandale, who purchased the pillows and eventually draperies. Word spread quickly, especially among designers, and the clientele grew.
Our Team
As a family-owned company, we value the personal touch—and we know you do too! That’s why owners Oscar and Elda are involved in the process at every step. Our consultant, Elda, has an eye for great design and a people-centered personality that manifests in great results and happy clients—even the most demanding ones.
Oscar manages sales and operations and is on-site at least once for every installation to ensure clients get what they expect. If there’s any issue, he resolves it the same day or the next day—because time is valuable, and you shouldn’t have to wait to get what you need.
Our diverse team of talented and experienced seamstresses, upholsterers, and installers work in-house, so we have everything to create and install high-quality custom-made products with a short turnaround time. And we never outsource our work. We offer a simple alternative to the frustrating task of shopping for customized window treatments, working with you one-on-one to help you find the perfect materials, styles, and colors for your home or office.
